The Citizen reports that labour federation Cosatu will reportedly not shut down calls for the African National Congress (ANC) to hold an early leadership challenge and wants deliberations to start soon.
Cosatu general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali told journalists on Thursday that the leadership of the unions under its fold had mulled over the idea of an early elective conference at the federation’s recently concluded central executive committee (CEC) meeting. “The sad reality is that the current ANC is highly factionalised and cannot claim to still be functioning as a coherent and a unitary organisation,” Ntshalintshali stated. He said talks would be postponed to a special leadership summit to be held at a later stage.
