News24 reports that a Free State EMS paramedic was allegedly assaulted by tow truck drivers on Saturday night in Bloemfontein.
Provincial health department spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said Yvonne Peter was allegedly attacked by the tow truckers who were racing with the ambulance, which was rushing to the same accident scene. It was not immediately clear how many truckers attacked Peter. Mvambi said Peter suffered head injuries and her hairpiece was pulled off. “She was reportedly also racially insulted. Mvambi commented: “It is shocking for us that the tow truckers were almost racing with the ambulance in an effort to arrive earlier than an ambulance in the accident scene. he humane consideration and the rules of the road provide for the ambulance to be given a right of way, but this was not the case…”
