Business Report writes that a new three-year agreement for the vehicle-manufacturing industry appears imminent.
Hlokoza Motau, head of collective bargaining at the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), confirmed late on Thursday that, although agreement had been reached on all the major issues, it was still subject to being endorsed by the union’s national executive committee. He said the parties had agreed on a 10% wage increase in the first year and 8% in each of the following two years. Motor manufacturers had apparently offered a housing subsidy of R500 a month per employee. Motau was unable to confirm when an agreement would be signed. Johann Evertse of the Automobile Manufacturers’ Employers’ Association (Ameo) said earlier on Thursday that an in principle agreement had not yet been reached with Numsa, but added: “I think it’s close. e have reached agreement on most of the key issues.”
