natu thumb medium80 91ANA reports that the National Teachers’ Union (Natu) has called for free university education for teachers’ children and for the Government Employees Medical Scheme (Gems) to be dissolved.

Natu deputy president Allen Thompson in a statement on Sunday called for “equalisation of education because university lectures earn a lot” and their children were exempted from paying fees in universities.  He noted that even in basic education teachers were not exempted from paying fees in schools.  Thompson also called on government to dissolve the Government Employees Medical Scheme (Gems), saying that it was collapsing with a solvency rate now at 9.6 percent.  Natu has launched a court case and a dispute in the labour court because of the inefficiency of Gems.
