BDLive reports that only a few of the South African employers who participated in the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey intend to employ more people in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The survey results on Tuesday showed that of the 755 employers who participated, only 15% of them expected to increase staffing levels in the October to December period. Six percent forecast a decrease and 78% anticipated no change. Despite this, hiring plans — at 9% — are two percentage points stronger when compared with the previous quarter and three percentage points higher than a year earlier. While staffing levels are forecast to increase in all 10 sectors during the coming quarter, job opportunities will be strongest in the wholesale and retail trade; and transport, storage and communication sectors. Job opportunities will be weakest in mining and manufacturing sectors.
