TMG Digital reports that a strike that threatened to disrupt Gautrain services has been averted after operating company Bombela and the United National Transport Union (Untu) reached a settlement.
This came after two months of wage negotiations. According to Untu, the agreement provides for an 8.4% salary increase and an increase of R100 in housing allowance for this year and next year. The salary increase will be backdated from 1 July 2016. The union had been seeking 9%, but a majority in a ballot of members decided to accept the 8.4% rather than strike for an extra 0.6%.
