Business Report writes that some 923,000 more South Africans were employed in the third quarter, Statistics SA’s latest Quarterly Employment Statistics report showed on Monday.
This comes on the back of a November release that showed that unemployment in SA rose to a record 27.1% high in the third quarter - the highest in 13 years. In Monday’s release, the official body said those employed grew 93,000 quarter-on-quarter, from almost 9.2 million in June 2016 to 9.28 million as of the end of September. This was largely due to increases in community services (78,000 or 3.1%); trade (7,000 or 0.4%); construction (6,000 or 1.1%); business services (6,000 or 0.3%) and mining and quarrying (2,000 or 0.4%). There were decreases in manufacturing and transport, which each shed 3,000 jobs.
