TimesLive reports that most of the top leadership of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) will retain their posts after they were nominated unopposed at the union’s national congress in Cape Town on Monday.
General secretary Irvin Jim‚ his deputy Karl Cloete and president Andrew Chirwa were all nominated uncontested. Mphumzi Maqungo will also retain his position as national treasurer. Basil Cele will take over as first deputy president from Christine Olivier who will step down after this congress. Cele is currently the second deputy president. The only position to be contested was that of second deputy President, for which Puleng Phaka and Ruth Ntlokotse were nominated. The results will be made public on Thursday.
