TimesLive reports that the appointment of the Passenger Rail Agency of SA's (Prasa’s) interim board has been met with relief, with the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) saying the announcement was what it had hoped for.
Satawu general secretary Zenzo Mahlangu said on Monday that interim Prasa chairman and former Sanral boss Nazir Ali was an experienced manager who could instil a sense of sound governance to the embattled railways agency. He added that other board members, such as former NUM general secretary Frans Baleni and SA Local Government Association CEO Xolile George, were sure to turn Prasa around. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is, however, not convinced by the appointment of Ali and is also sceptical of the transport minister's motivations for announcing the interim board.
