News24 reports that former SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has lodged an application to postpone disciplinary proceedings against him scheduled for Friday afternoon.
He faces charges of breaching the terms of his suspension following a media briefing he held on 19 April. In an affidavit to the chair of the proceedings, Nazeer Cassim, Motsoeneng requests that, by no later than 2 June, the SABC should provide him with a copy of certain SABC board minutes that are said to be pertinent. Motsoeneng's lawyer Zola Majavu also states in the affidavit that his client failed to lodge a responding affidavit to the charges due to medical incapacity. He says Motsoeneng underwent an operation and is set to have a follow-up operation in the near future. "The employee (Motsoeneng) was placed under strict instructions to [rest] and not engage in any stressful or straining activity," the affidavit reads. Motsoeneng has allegedly also been barred from access to his office at the SABC where he keeps copies of minutes of board meetings needed to submit as evidence. “His personal assistant has also for no reason been placed on leave," Majavu added.
