eNCA reports that Gauteng health authorities will be holding a special meeting to resolve problems affecting forensic pathology assistants in the province.
The workers, who are affiliated to the National Education Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu), have been on a go-slow for nearly two weeks over working conditions. They are demanding extra pay and a danger allowance for conducting autopsies which they say they are untrained to do. The union is also demanding learnerships for union members to become registered pathologists. The strike has caused chaos at mortuaries with bereaved families unable to bury their loved ones on time.
