numsaEngineering News reports that the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) has confirmed its participation in further meetings with employers in the metals and engineering sector to resolve a wage dispute.

Further negotiations will take place on 28 & 29 June, and again on 5 & 6 July.  In a statement on Tuesday, Numsa said it has been forced into a deadlock by employers after rejecting their proposed 5.3% wage increase earlier this month.  Numsa reiterated its demand for a 15% increase in wages across the board, based on actual rates and not minimum rates.  It was also seeking a two-year deal and the extension of the agreement to non-parties that fall under the auspices of the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC), such as the National Employers Association of SA (Neasa).
