Mining Weekly reports that an employee was killed in a shaft-related incident at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine, near Carletonville, on Friday.
The gold producer reported on Monday that an investigation into the incident was under way. “We are extremely saddened by the loss of our colleague. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the deceased employee’s family, friends and colleagues,” said Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp.
