ANA reports that an inquiry into the collapse of a building in Durban last year that left four people dead and four injured is set to conclude next week.
The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) is investigating the collapse of the Imperial Logistics Construction building in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. In the incident in March 2018, a precast roofing company was busy with the final installation of the concrete precast roof slab when the structure collapsed resulting in the deaths and injuries. The collapse also caused structural damage to an adjacent building and damages to a heavy duty vehicle that parked on the public road along the perimeter fence. Over 20 witnesses have appeared before the inquiry. The DEL said on Monday that affected parties would be submitting and/or delivering their heads of argument from 31 July to 1 August. Should anyone be found to have contravened the Act or its regulations, a recommendation to prosecute will be made to the National Prosecuting Authority.
