goldfieldsMining Weekly reports that Gold Fields has vaccinated 73% of its South African workforce, based at the South Deep mine in Gauteng.

On Monday, the gold producer announced the completion of a week-long Covid-19 vaccination programme, which resulted in 3,122 employees and contractors being voluntarily vaccinated. About 350 people, or 8% of the workforce, could not be vaccinated during the week of the programme as they were within the recovery window from Covid-19, and a further 5% of employees were on leave. The remaining willing South Deep employees will be vaccinated in coming weeks. Gold Fields executive VP Martin Preece remarked that South Deep’s employees had demonstrated their commitment to being courageous leaders by taking care of themselves, their families, their communities, colleagues, the mine and the country.
