News24 reports that a 27-year-old taxi guard was shot dead during peak-hour traffic at a Kuilsriver taxi rank in Cape Town on Wednesday morning.
The taxi rank is situated close to Blackheath Primary School in Kuilsriver. Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said a murder case had been opened and the circumstances and motive for the shooting were currently under investigation. Kleinvlei Community Policing Forum chairperson Hubert Kemp said the incident happened at 07:30 on Wednesday. "There were a lot of eyewitnesses. People were on their way to work and taking taxis at the rank. People were taking their children to work, and children were in the schoolyard. It was chaos," he indicated. Kemp claimed it was a turf-related incident because another taxi operator used the taxi rank. This was the first time taxi-related violence had occurred in the area.
