tshwane thumb100 Maroela Media reports that the Tshwane city council informed commuters on Tuesday that its bus service had been suspended due to illegal industrial action by some members of the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu).

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said: “The union’s members are apparently aggrieved about overtime payments and salary increases. The City’s management will follow processes to ensure that the bus drivers return to work so that operations can continue as normal.” In terms of a collective agreement, the municipality’s labour relations unit will issue a letter to Samwu’s regional office giving an ultimatum that the union’s members must return to work within 48 hours. The City expressed its sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and advised commuters to make alternative arrangements in affected areas. It said that further developments would be shared with commuters shortly.
