News24 reports that a police officer was shot and killed by three armed men in Ngqeleni, Eastern Cape, on Monday afternoon.
According to a reliable police source, the officer, attached to the Ngqeleni police station, was ambushed by three men who allegedly fled on foot after the attack. His service pistol was apparently taken. The police officer, a warrant officer in his late 50s, worked at the Social Crime Prevention Unit. Ngqeleni is in the OR Tambo district area, about 103km from Lusikisiki, where 18 people died following a mass shooting on Saturday morning.
