SABC News reports that many workers at the Zoo Lake Clubhouse in Johannesburg could face a bleak future after a fire engulfed the bowling facility on Wednesday morning.
The facility’s manager Davian Cooper indicated that the damage was massive and could run into millions of rands. He said this would have a direct impact on the future of their employees. Cooper reported further: “At past six in the morning, I was contacted by a colleague that the place was burning. I came in as soon as possible and was met by all the emergency personnel who were already putting out the fire. The structure has a lot of wood and it was engulfed just in front of our eyes. The fire was getting bigger and bigger. My employees are obviously disturbed because this is their livelihood. Their lives will be affected. But I’m very resilient, I will make sure everything is sorted.”
