Press Statement dated 17 April 2018

Trade union Solidarity will disclose a dossier at a media conference on Thursday, 19 April, making further revelations regarding Denel’s large-scale misappropriation of funds.

Over the past weekend, Solidarity revealed that the state-owned entity Denel, who had difficulty paying its employees’ salaries at the end of last year due to financial problems, awarded a R1,1 million bursary to the son of North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

Although Denel has since denied the allegations, Solidarity will present supporting information at the conference, which will also reveal further misappropriation of funds.

“This is just another example of a state enterprise shamelessly wasting taxpayers’ money. It is a disgrace and cannot be tolerated any longer,” said Solidarity CEO Dirk Hermann.

Members of the media are invited to attend the conference.
