Press Statement dated 22 June 2018
e-Democracy, a small organization from the Netherlands, has been invited to present a case at the international participation congress ILERA in Seoul South Korea. ILERA was established in 1966 in response to a growing need to develop and exchange knowledge in the field of industrial relations, at the international level, and provide the academic and the practitioner with a forum for discussion and research.
In the Netherlands, a method is being sought to demonstrate the effects of employee participation. This is based on the idea that employee participation may have result. Between 2014 and 2016, Ecorys and e-Democracy worked on this challenge and the MPO (employee participation survey) came into being. Bob Vermaak of e-Democracy says “the municipality of Hengelo has been struggling for years with a lack of interest in the Works Council. The MPO was set up for this issue. In this research, variables such as confidence and decision-making play a major role”. The Works Council of Hengelo started with the results of the so called 0-measurement. After a year and a half, the 1-measurement was performed. Bob Vermaak “This measurement showed that the confidence between employees increased significantly and that 8% of the employees participated more actively”. A result that also is noticed by the ILERA organization. On 26 July, Bob Vermaak presents the Hengelo case. In addition to the Hengelo case, he also presents the Participation app which is developed by e-Democracy. “With the Participation app it is very easy to involve people in certain matters. This can be employees but also, for example, citizens. How beautiful would it be if our app is used not only in the Netherlands but also in other countries?” says Bob Vermaak.
The ILERA World Congress takes place from 23 July to 27 July and, in addition to e-Democracy, also offers a platform to speakers from Samsung and several Asian universities.
