Press Statement dated 14 November 2018

The Public Servants Association (PSA) welcomes the resignation of Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, as confirmed by the Presidency.

“Mr Gigaba’s tenure as minister has been characterised by scandals and controversy unbecoming of a public official entrusted to emulate the highest standard of ethical conduct. Consequently, his resignation was long overdue. Mr Gigaba will unfortunately be remembered for his involvement in the controversial naturalisation of the Gupta family, a sexual scandal, for lying under oath on the Fireblade Aviation saga and the deterioration of state-owned companies under his watch as Public Enterprises Minister,” said PSA General Manager, Ivan Fredericks.

“The PSA trusts that the President will apply due diligence prior to the appointment of ministers to avoid a leadership crisis in his cabinet as was witnessed during former President Jacob Zuma’s administration. What is required are persons of integrity, with respect for the rule of law and who put the interests of the country and its citizens first under all circumstances,” said Mr Fredericks.
