Press Statement dated 23 November 2018

The Public Servants Association (PSA) welcomes the Home Affairs Audit Report outcome and can only attribute improvements to the hard work and sacrifices by the Department’s dedicated employees.

The Auditor-General, Kimi Makwetu, issued a report that Home Affairs was not in the list of the top ten National Departments contributing to unauthorised expenditure. The Department also does not feature on the list of top ten contributors to irregular expenditure.

“PSA members at the Department were faced with various challenges over the past year. They had to face unilateral changes to their working hours and were subjected to the implementation of various systems, which had an impact on their working conditions. This despite the non-filling of vacancies where staff were required to continue carrying these extra responsibilities to ensure that service delivery continued effectively. Despite all these challenges, these employees remained steadfast and committed to Batho Pele principles,” said PSA General Manager, Ivan Fredericks.

“The PSA commends its members and the Department on the outcome of the report. The PSA calls on the Department to now, in turn, accelerate improvements of its facilities that will further contribute to the improvement of service delivery. In addition, the health and safety of these dedicated employees should be a priority,” said Mr Fredericks.
