Press Statement dated 23 November 2018
We, as South African Typographical Union (SATU) note and would like to welcome yesterday’s cabinet reshuffle by President Ramaphosa. We are of the view that this reshuffle although long overdue is a step in the right direction in terms of having skilled and trustworthy individuals leading state entities.
We are also heartened by the merging of the communications and telecommunications ministries into a single ministry and the subsequent appointment of Mrs. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams as the Minister of the newly merged department.
As SATU we support this appointment and look forward to working with her in resolving issues facing her portfolio such as the SABC fiasco. We believe that with the help of organized labour, sustainable solutions for the telecommunications, media and digital media industries can be found that will benefit all South Africans and not a few elites.
We wish the new Minister all the best and trust that she will be a breath of fresh air that her ministry so desperately needs if it is to champion the cause of workers and South Africans at large in promoting access to cheaper data, world class public service broadcasting and providing a platform for business and the average man to take advantage of opportunities presented by the fourth industrial revolution.
