popcruSowetan reports that a SA Police Service (SAPS) vehicle was used to transport T-shirts bearing the emblem of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) to Cosatu’s Workers Day rally in Mamelodi at the weekend.

Popcru is one of one of the labour federation’s affiliates.  The red T-shirts were distributed from a marked VW City Golf, with registration BRN 346 B.  The car belongs to the Human Resources Utilisation Unit of the SAPS in Gauteng.  Gauteng police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini said they would probe the incident.  Popcru spokesman Richard Mamabolo said he was not aware of the incident.  He pointed out that as part of an agreement reached in the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council, full-time shop stewards were generally given marked cars of the SAPS for use for union work.
