BDLive reports that the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) said on Friday it was considering a strike against Eskom for rejecting its wage increase demands.
"Eskom is only offering a mere 7% as a salary increase for our members which are below what the National Energy Regulator (Nersa) has allocated for manpower cost increases‚" Numsa's electricity sector co-ordinator Vuyo Bikitsha said. Separately, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which began wage negotiations with a demand of 18%, said it would get a mandate from its members at a meeting on 1 July on whether to accept or reject Eskom’s offer. Eskom indicated there would be a final round of wage discussions from 13 to 15 July 2016. Its current offer is for a 7% across the board wage increase plus an extra 0%-2% for lower-paid staff. Key allowances would be adjusted by 5.6%.
