Cape Talk reports that the SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) says, although it’s saddened by the political changes in hotly contests metros, it will accept any municipal administration that has been democratically elected.
DA-led multi-party coalition governments have taken over in Nelson Mandela Bay, Tshwane and Johannesburg. Samwu spokesperson Papikie Mohale stated that the union would support local government on the condition that no municipal workers were purged. He said that municipal workers should not be employed or fired on the basis of their political affiliation and there should be no one who was victimised or purged. Otherwise municipal workers would stand up and defend their own.
