protestSABC News reports that fifty seven miners have staged an underground sit-in at Thusi Mining in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.  The miners have been underground for seven days and are demanding their salaries, which apparently have not been paid for three months.

It is understood the mine decided to discontinue operations without informing the workers.  Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) Regional Chairperson Don Sibanyoni said:  “They have not yet paid us since May.  We are sitting underground to get attention from the government and employer.  We were never informed that the mine is going under.  We want our money.  We need DMR to come to our rescue.”  The miners have threatened to remain underground until their demands are met.
