TMG Digital reports that the Food and Allied Workers Union (Fawu) has vowed to shut down parts of the Pretoria CBD today as part of nationwide protests against the pending introduction of the sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) tax.
About 1,000 people are expected to descend upon the Treasury head office between 10am and midday, while further protests are planned for Durban on Wednesday. Protest action will be rolled out in other parts of the country. Fawu general secretary Katishi Masemola said the march was aimed at highlighting job losses that will come with the implementation of the sugar tax.
