MISALogoBusiness Report writes that the Motor Industry Staff Association (Misa) has refused to be part of the wage settlement agreement signed by the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) and the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) for the retail motor industry.

The National Employers’ Association of SA (Neasa) has also not signed the agreement, because it is still busy getting a mandate from its members.  Yet, it is unlikely this will delay or stop the labour minister from publishing the settlement agreement and extending it to the entire retail motor industry.  The new agreement is expected thereby to become effective from early next year.  Hermann Kostens of Misa confirmed that it had not and would not be signing the agreement as a form of protest.  He explained that in terms of the agreement employees would receive a 7% increase on minimum wages in each year of the three-year agreement, but 82% of Misa’s members were paid above the current minimum and would therefore not necessarily get any wage increase at all.
