eNCA reports that a light aircraft crash-landed on Oestermoed Farm in Hekpoort, northwest of Johannesburg, on Tuesday afternoon.
Chris Botha of Netcare 911 commended the heroic action of Oestermoed protection officers who "were at hand and pulled the pilot from the wreckage before it burst into flames." He said their actions "definitely saved the pilot, a man in his twenties, from fatal injuries". The trainee pilot went on a solo flight in a Cessna aircraft when he apparently experienced engine problems. He sustained moderate injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for care.
